Kala Namuk is an unrefined table salt with a strong sulfurous taste derived from the mixture of sulfur compounds with it. Although it is indeed blackish as mined, the powder is more a light purple color. It tastes less salty than common table salt amd is mined from quarries in Central Pakistan.
Kala Namuk is used in Indian cuisine as a condiment and is added to chats, chutneys, raitas and many other savory Indian snacks.
